Weighing in at a perfectly sized 0.75" (3/4") square, these cufflinks show off the incredible figure and color of the Koa wood without going over the top. Each pair is made one pair at a time by me, by hand, in my home shop. Because woods vary greatly in color, figure, and texture, yours will be unique in color, grain pattern, and figure.

Curl is a feature of Koa in which the growth of the wood fibers is distorted in an undulating chatoyant pattern, producing wavy lines known as curl. This effect is often mistakenly said to be part of the grain of the wood. However, it is more accurately called figure, as the distortion is perpendicular to the grain direction. A picture does not accurately portray the "movement" in the wood that occurs when these cufflinks move under light. It appears to move like gentle waves in the ocean.
Acacia koa is a species of flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae. It is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. Its name in the Hawaiian language, koa, also means brave, bold, fearless, or warrior. Koa is a large tree, typically attaining a height of 49–82 ft and a spread of 20–39 ft. In deep volcanic ash, a koa tree can reach a height of 98 ft, a circumference of 20 ft, and a spread of 125 ft.
